Materials & Facilities Technician at Surgical Institute of Reading
The Materials & Facilities Technician supports the daily operations of both the Materials Management and Facilities departments. This position is responsible for receiving, stocking, and distributing supplies and inventory while also performing routine facility maintenance and upkeep. Duties include shipment receiving, inventory management, supply delivery, painting, basic repairs, facility inspections, furniture assembly, and other general maintenance activities. The role helps maintain an organized supply chain and a safe, functional environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Materials Management (50%)
- Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments.
- Verify deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Sign for deliveries and document discrepancies or damaged items.
- Label, organize, and stock supplies in designated locations.
- Fill departmental supply requests and restock inventory areas.
- Rotate stock and monitor product expiration dates.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with inventory counts.
- Process returns and assist with backorder follow-up.
- Transport supplies between facility locations.
Facilities (50%)
- Perform routine building maintenance, repairs, and upkeep.
- Patch and repair walls; paint facility areas as needed.
- Replace ceiling tiles, door hardware, light bulbs, and other basic building components.
- Assemble, install, and move furniture, shelving, and equipment.
- Complete routine preventative maintenance and facility inspections.
- Maintain clean and organized storage, utility, and maintenance areas.
- Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repair needs.
- Assist with facility improvement projects and office relocations.
- Perform seasonal duties including snow and ice removal.
- Support environmental safety, infection prevention, and hazardous waste handling procedures.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in receiving, warehouse operations, maintenance, facilities, construction, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
