Urology RN - Full-time Days

The Urology RN is responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care to the patients in the Operating Room, Pre-Op, and PACU. The nurse is accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to customers within the Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU utilizing the nursing process.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1.               Knows and adheres to the policies of the Dunes Surgical Hospital and demonstrates fiscal responsibility

2.               Follows nursing care policies, procedures, goals, and objectives according to accepted standards.

3.               Ensures that the surgical room is sterile and safe for the patient

4.               Plans, implements, and evaluates preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative nursing care for patients based on specific patient needs and according to the physician’s orders.

5.               Must have strong attention to detail and physical stamina to handle long, arduous work hours.

6.               Assesses the needs of the patient during the procedure to ensure the best outcome

7.               Works with a physician to develop the care plan for the patient during the surgery

8.               Continues to evaluate the patient’s condition during the procedure and makes changes to the care plan as necessary

9.               Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway maintenance, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families, and other needed clinical competencies.

10.            Ensures that the sterile field is not compromised during the procedure

11.            Keeps the surgical area clean and organized for the scrub nurse and the physician; removes instruments and sponges as they are used during the procedure

12.            Organizes and prepare medical records of patients.  Documents care appropriately and thoroughly.  Follows up on missing data and other patient care needs.

13.            Remains calm and functions as a team member during stressful crises.

14.            Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.

15.            Actively participates in appropriate committees as assigned.

16.            Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood-borne pathogens.

17.            Uses good body mechanics.

18.            Informs management of applicable day-to-day situations.

19.             Follows employee health and other personnel and staffing policies.

1.     Must be a graduate of accredited college or university.

2.     Registered Professional Nurse with current state licensure.

3.     BLS & ACLS certifications.

4.     Ability to function in a high stress environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1.     Will be required to lift patients frequently requiring the ability to lift 100 pounds.

2.     Must be able to exert at least 50 pounds of force to assist with patient transports.

3.     Be able to stand, bend, and stoop, and/or sit within a confined area for prolonged periods of time, up to 6 to 8 hours.

4.     Be able to function without nourishment or medication for a period of time extending to 6 to 8 hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

5.     Dexterity: Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrist involved.

6.     Will be working in a clean, well-lighted area

7.     May be required to deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity.

8.     Hazards and Risks: Direct patient contact with possible exposure to communicable diseases, exposure to radiation and CRT.
