Job Summary: Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing all items pertinent to the operations of the center.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned: 

  • Coordinates and implements AMI standards and any other resources (IFU’s, SDSs, policies) for the sterilization of instruments and supplies. 
  • Can work independently and uses time wisely.
  • Demonstrates good body mechanics
  •  Speaks up to address practice issues.
  • Coordinates the availability of instruments/supplies for cases as needed.
  • Assures the adequate functioning and cleaning of all autoclaves and other sterilization/cleaning equipment. 
  • Maintains adequate supplies without waste that are needed for sterilization process.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
  • Facilitates turnover times to promote operating room efficiency.
  •  Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
  • Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance, and participates in emergency preparedness drills.
  • Follows all equipment and safety guidelines, and is personally responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.
  •  Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background.
  • Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team.
  • Attends in-service training, required education, conferences, and meetings to learn new skills as required.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees. Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
  • Maintains designated certifications such as CPR, as offered by the center.
  • Acts in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the Center.
  •  Complies with Policies and Procedures, and adheres to safety guidelines to ensure a safe work and patient care environment.

 

Qualification requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Sterile Process Certification Program is preferred. 
  • One to two years’ experience as an Central Sterile Processing Technician in multiple specialties or equivalent combination of education and experience.
