New Mexico Surgery Center - Multispecialty is hiring a Medical Records Specialist Full Time.

Job Summary: The Medical Records Specialist performs a variety of Medical Records duties such as chart analysis, abstracting, audits and filing. Prepares and responds to correspondence and records for the release of patient information. Must be knowledgeable of the most current patient confidentiality issues. Must be flexible to perform a variety of duties. This position requires strong interpersonal skills to regularly interact professionally, promptly and courteously with patients, physicians, and their offices in addition to other Center personnel. This requirement of interpersonal skills is needed in order to assist the Center in maintaining strong public and community relations while responding to inquires/requests. This person may be assigned additional delegated responsibilities and special assignments by the Business Office Coordinator and/or Administrator.
Monday – Friday with weekends off.

Reports to Business Office Coordinator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for assembling medical chart upon completion, reviewing each chart for completeness and obtaining missing signatures or documents in a timely manner.
2. Prepares charts for doctor’s signatures, maintains medical record files and is responsible for all aspects of its confidentiality.
3. Responsible for obtaining and appropriately filing all reports generated by outside vendors.
4. Assists the Business Office departments with the infection control survey and mailing form to all surgeons.
5. Responsible for completion of the Medical Record and obtaining surgeons signature on Operative Reports.
6. Maintain log of outstanding Operative Reports and assist in the report preparation for the MEC.
7. Assures that new physicians have transcription number and information. Resolves any problems with the transcription service.
8. Receives, screens, and routes incoming calls in a professional manner by the
third ring.
9. Informs Business Office Coordinator of applicable day-to-day situations.
10. Follows employee health, safety, personnel, and staffing policies
11. Ability to work as a team member.
12. Must be flexible, reliable, productive, patient oriented and self-motivated
13. Must be able to cross train and support/float to other areas of business office as needed.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience and/or Education:
Must be a high school graduate. Must have six months medical records experience in an ambulatory surgery center or a medical provider. Capable of operating 10 key calculator and demonstrated computer skills.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information on one-on-one and small group situations to patients, physicians, and other employees of the Center.
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variable in standardized situations.
