CST/SPD at Baylor Surgicare at Carrollton

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPD) / Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, and ready for use. This role supports the surgical team by maintaining sterile environments and assisting during procedures (CST responsibilities) to ensure patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.

SPD (Sterile Processing) Duties

  • Decontaminate, inspect, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols
  • Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, washer-disinfectors)
  • Perform quality assurance checks, including biological and chemical monitoring
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and instrument tracking
  • Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA, AORN, and facility policies
  • Manage inventory, stock supplies, and organize instrument trays
  • Identify and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment
CST (Surgical Technologist) Duties
  • Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain sterile field during surgical procedures
  • Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs, passing instruments and supplies efficiently
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping
  • Perform surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) according to policy
  • Handle specimens per protocol
  • Assist with room turnover and cleaning between cases

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Orthopedic surgical procedures
  • High School Diploma/GED; completion of a Surgical Technician Program and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certification as required - CRCST, CSPDT or equivalent 
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
