CST/SPD at Baylor Surgicare at Carrollton
SPD (Sterile Processing) Duties
- Decontaminate, inspect, clean, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols
- Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, washer-disinfectors)
- Perform quality assurance checks, including biological and chemical monitoring
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and instrument tracking
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards, OSHA, AORN, and facility policies
- Manage inventory, stock supplies, and organize instrument trays
- Identify and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment
- Prepare operating rooms by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment
- Maintain sterile field during surgical procedures
- Anticipate surgeon and procedural needs, passing instruments and supplies efficiently
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping
- Perform surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments) according to policy
- Handle specimens per protocol
- Assist with room turnover and cleaning between cases
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Orthopedic surgical procedures
- High School Diploma/GED; completion of a Surgical Technician Program and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certification as required - CRCST, CSPDT or equivalent
- Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center is strongly preferred
- Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
