JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, Medical Record Specialist reports to Office Manager and supervises no staff members is responsible for covering any aspect of the business office necessary. Maintains the Practice's medical records according to established guidelines and requirements. Reviews records for compliance with approved policies.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Manages the medical records filing system according to Practice policy.
- Provides an organized storage system for timely retrieval of individual medical records.
- Maintains confidentiality, security, and physical safety of medical records.
- Reviews medical records for timely completion, and accuracy; informs supervisor about delinquent or incomplete medical records.
- Maintains index‑references, registers, logs, and all other systems involving patient information according to policy.
- Creates new patient files and updates current patient files.
- Log and file all referrals from primary care physicians.
- Reviews forms for patient signature; obtains forms or signature(s) as needed.
- Assists with other Practice activities as needed.
- Collects data and prepares reports upon request.
- Completes vital statistics on deaths and reportable diseases.
- Provides information, according to policy, to parties engaged in research or study projects involving patient care and utilization of services.
- Adheres to medico-legal requirements when answering correspondence and inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate required
- Working knowledge of medical terminology required
- Medical records experience preferred
- Word processing skills preferred
