Medical Laboratory Assistant at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Trophy Club:

*Hours are 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Mon-Fri*

 

The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), under general supervision, performs routine technical and clerical functions to support the laboratory. The MLA processes samples for testing including receiving, distribution, centrifugation, aliquoting, storage and sendouts; will perform CLIA waived laboratory testing, as needed. This position also provides phlebotomy coverage for the laboratory, pre-admission testing, and other areas.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

·         Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen collection, receipt, handling and processing, prioritizing based on collection priority.

·         Provides support for clinical testing including loading instruments, preparing/staining slides, preparing samples to be sent out, answering calls, faxing and scanning results.

·         Adheres to the laboratory’s safety and quality control (QC) polices, and documents all QC activities performed; discuss and refers to the laboratory technologists for any specimen issues and/or troubleshooting required.

·         Maintains a clean work area; receives, stocks and conducts inventory as necessary.

Additional Duties: performs other tasks deemed relevant to the department, ensuring overall functionality and effectiveness.

Job Qualifications

Education

·         Associate or Bachelor’s degree.

Licensure/Certification                                                                                                                              

·         Phlebotomy certification (i.e., NHA, AMT or ASCP).

Specific Job Experience

·         1+ years of experience as a phlebotomist.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Excellent communication, written and verbal, and people skills.

·         Excellent customer service skills.

·         Good critical thinking and organizational skills, and attention to detail.

·         Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation
