Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Uptown is searching to hire a PRN Patient Care Technician in our Pre-Admission Testing department. 

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for to the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private Inpatient rooms, a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, General, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology, ENT, Reconstructive Surgery, and other surgical specialties.

Job Summary:

The Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Technician is responsible for coordinating with surgeon offices to ensure patients are medically optimized and fully prepared for scheduled procedures. This role supports patient safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient surgical workflow by collaborating closely with providers, nursing staff, and ancillary departments under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.

  • Receive and input patient paperwork from surgeon offices into the EMR
  • Collect and document detailed medical histories,  prior surgical history, and scheduled surgical procedures making sure all information is correct and complete
  • Follow up with medical/cardiology clearances needed prior to surgery
  • Obtain and review physician orders for pre-operative testing
  • Coordinate required diagnostics (labs, EKGs, imaging, etc.) and ensure they are completed
  • Ensure all required test results are received, reviewed, and available prior to procedure
  • Accurately document all communications in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Filling out consent forms and required pre-surgical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines
  • Address patient questions and escalate clinical concerns appropriately
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, surgeon offices, and clinical departments
  • Identify potential barriers to surgery and assist in resolving issues prior to day of procedure
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to pre-admission processes
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Strong clerical and clinical background
  • Excellent written communications skills using Outlook email and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong time management skills

Required Skills

  • High School graduate or higher.
  • Current certification in BLS
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant in a doctor's office is preferred 
  • Strong background in medical terminology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good Organization habits
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Perform EKGs with competency on file.
  • Obtain Vital Signs with competency on file.
