Lab Aid/Assistant

$21-$22 an hour

General Duties:

1.       Meets all responsibility requirements established by management.

2.       Data entry

3.       Light lab duties (embedding, organizing paraffin blocks, changing reagents in automated lab equipment, loading microscope slides on automated stainers, loading tissue processors, etc.)

4.       Receives laboratory telephone calls.

5.       Scans and files documents as needed.

6.       Performs related clerical and cleaning duties.

7.       Performs other duties as assigned by superiors.

1. Supports the facility's ideology, mission, goals and objectives.

2. Performs in accordance with the laboratory's policies and procedures.

3. Follows the laboratory's standards for ethical business conduct.

4. Conducts self as a positive role model and team member.

5. Participates in laboratory committees, meetings, in-services and activities as applicable.

Compliance:

1. Performs according to established compliance policies and procedures.

2. Performs according to established performance-improvement policies and procedures. 

3. Complies with safety policies and procedures in the performance of job duties and responsibilities.

4. Maintains responsibility for a safe work environment by documenting and reporting any observed or suspected safety violations, hazards and policy/procedure noncompliance.

Communication:

1. Communicates effectively and professionally with visitors, physicians and coworkers.

2. Interacts with others in a positive, respectful and considerate manner.

Financial Practices:

1. Uses facility resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices.

2. Reports wasteful practices.

3. Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective and safety improvements.

·         24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination (preferred but not required).

·         Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

·         Must be able to type at least 40 wpm.

·         Accuracy (in every facet) is a must.

·         Laboratory and/or histology experience preferred.

·         Must be able to function under time pressure.

·         Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

·         Must be detail oriented.

·         Excellent hand and eye coordination.

1.       Able to read, write, speak, and communicate clearly in English.  Bilingual skills a plus.

2.       Able to see and functionally differentiate colors, words, and numbers.
Able to operate a computer and use a keyboard. 

3.       Able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

4.       Able to lift up to 20 pounds.
