Materials Manager/ Scrub Tech at Midwest Physicians Surgery Center

The Scrub Technician and Materials Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of the surgical services department. This position is responsible for providing expert scrub assistance during surgeries while managing and coordinating the inventory of surgical supplies and equipment in collaboration with the Materials Manager. The Scrub Technician will report directly to the Operating Room Manager and will oversee scrub technician activities, assist in training, and support materials management tasks to ensure that the operating room is well-equipped and organized for all surgical procedures.

Position requires weekdays only -- no holidays, weekends, or call. Competitive salary and benefits for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Scrub Technician Duties:

  • Provide proficient scrub assistance during surgeries, including preparing sterile fields, passing instruments, and assisting the surgical team as needed.
  • Ensure all instruments and supplies are sterile, accounted for, and available for use during procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and sterile environment in the operating room (OR) by following strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and any necessary patient care during surgical procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers to ensure smooth operation flow.

Materials Management Duties:

  • Work in partnership with the Materials Manager to maintain and manage surgical supply inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels, accurate ordering, and proper storage of materials.
  • Monitor the condition and expiration dates of supplies, and assist with the rotation of inventory to minimize waste and ensure availability.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts, receiving shipments, and ensuring that materials are stocked appropriately in the OR and supply rooms.
  • Assist with tracking and documenting usage of surgical supplies and instruments, reporting any shortages or discrepancies to the Materials Manager.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, and serviced in coordination with the Materials Manager.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Surgical Technologist certification (CST) required, or on job training with education documented.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a scrub or endo technician in an operating room setting.
  • Preferred experience in materials management and inventory control, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and sterile techniques.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
