Under the direct supervision of the Pre-Op/PACU Clinical Supervisor, the Registered Nurse – Pre-Op/PACU provides comprehensive nursing care to ensure that patient care services are delivered in accordance with the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals. The RN is responsible for preoperative preparation, post-anesthesia recovery, and the continuity of care throughout the perioperative process. This role focuses on ensuring patient safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes by delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and
collaborating closely with the surgical team. The RN is responsible for upholding professional standards and compliance with regulatory guidelines, including those set by the state board of nursing, ASPAN, ANA, TXBON, and Joint Commission.
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in PreOp and PACU for both inpatient and outpatient surgical patients.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, utilizing the nursing process to ensure safe, effective care throughout the perioperative period.
- Conduct preoperative assessments to determine patient readiness for surgery and ensure necessary preparation.
- Monitor patients’ recovery from anesthesia, providing critical care until they meet discharge or transfer criteria.
- Implement physician orders, administer and document medications safely, and provide nursing interventions as necessary, in accordance with standards of practice
- Provide patient and family education regarding preoperative preparation, post-operative care, and recovery instructions.
- Maintain proficiency in using medical equipment needed for preoperative and postoperative care.
- Participate in the admission and discharge process as needed, ensuring smooth transitions and proper documentation
- Participate in the rotational call system to support staffing needs.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, providing appropriate interventions in line with hospital
protocols.
Required Skills
- Graduate of an accredited RN program.
- Current Texas RN License.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited through American Heart Association (AHA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications accredited through AHA (must be obtained within 60 days of hire).
- Minimum of 2 years of critical care experience in a hospital setting, preferably in perioperative nursing.
- Experience in a high-volume surgical environment is highly preferred.
