We are currently looking for a full time Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our team.  

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for providing surgical scrub support for a variety of minor and major surgical procedures, based on individual competency. The CST is expected to ensure sterile techniques are adhered to and to maintain a sterile field during surgery. This role involves handling specialized instruments and equipment, organizing supplies for surgical procedures, and participating in the quality improvement efforts of the department. 

Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Precept and train new staff, creating rotation schedules, and ensuring proficiency across all cases in the service line.
  • Collaborate with the OR Leadership to develop and implement annual competencies, in-services, and education plans for the surgical team.
Surgical Support:
  • Assist with surgical procedures, organize instruments, and ensure efficient workflow in the OR.
  • Participate in a rotational call system to provide continuous support for patient services, responding to emergency situations as needed.
  • Set up and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures, adhering to aseptic techniques under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Apply knowledge of specialized surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies required for various types of surgeries.
  • Organize instruments, supplies, and equipment for easy access and maximum efficiency during procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of surgical procedures and operating room protocols.
  • Re-stock operating room supplies as needed, ensuring availability for upcoming surgeries.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology necessary to assist effectively in surgical procedures.
  • Pull and verify surgical cases, ensuring all instruments and supplies are accurate and prepared for the procedure.
Quality and Compliance:
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by identifying areas for improvement within the service line and collaborating with leadership to implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, sterile techniques, and hospital policies, maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
  • Participate in the review and updating of OR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with current best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, infection control practices, and hospital policies, including time and attendance requirements.
Communication and Coordination
  • Serve as a liaison between the surgical team and other departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care within the service line.
  • Support the circulating nurse in maintaining and updating physician preference cards and communicating changes to the surgical team.
  • Utilizes email and computer systems (including EHR and scheduling software) to manage staff communication, coordinate patient care, document performance, and ensure efficient workflow.

Required Skills

Education:
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification:
  • Certification in Operating Room Technology required (unless grandfathered in under The Joint Commission [TJC] clause).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by American Heart Association (AHA) required.
Specific Job Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the Operating Room (OR) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Orthopedic or spine specialties preferred
