• Organize and assign daily workflow within the team.
• Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the Pathologist.
• Appropriately stains and labels specimens.
• Accessioning and grossing of samples.
• Performs special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures.
• Responsible for preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and laboratory computers.
• Keeps accurate records including equipment preventative maintenance and repair, QA and QC records, temperature and equipment charts, safety procedures, training exposure, and waste management.
• Prepares slides of specimens to enhance visibility under microscope.
• Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements. Studies slides under microscope to detect deviations from expected results and reports abnormalities for further study.
• Assumes responsibility for keeping work area clean.
• Completes thorough cl,eaning at the end of work period.
• Prepares chemicals and stains for performing tests. Uses all chemicals following safety procedures. Maintains accurate and adequate inventory of reagents and tracks utilization and expiration dates.
• Understands and follows all laboratory accreditation standards, OSHA, EPA, and CLIA standards. Maintains educational credits and other requirements for licensure.
• Train new staff and coach current staff for optimal performance and efficiency. Plan, assign, and direct work.
• Address complaints and solve problems.
Required Skills

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
• Ability to write technical procedures. Ability to speak effectively to pathologists, customers, and employees of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast pace setting while managing competing demands.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to use weight scales and metric measurements
Required Experience
• Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Excel.
• HT or HTL (ASCP) Certificate/License preferred.
