Registered Nurse Emergency Department at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas:

 

·       Provides direct patient care in the emergency department setting. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision.

·       The RN is able to triage patients safely, rapidly and accurately.

·       Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.

·       Communicates with Emergency Department physicians about changes in patient status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic and laboratory studies. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of professional school of nursing, BSN preferred

License:

  • Current, Active TX RN licensure
  • BLS required, must get ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire date.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years clinical experience in Medical/Surgical, Intensive Care or Emergency Room nursing

Principal Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients by accurately assigning triage categories.
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques and educates patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
  • Ability to perform waived testing per Clinical Laboratory policy and procedures and interpret results of waived tests.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of TDH, Medicare, Emergency Preparedness and Joint Commission rules & regulations.
  • Ability to make independent sound nursing and management decisions.
  • Liaison between staff and administration as needed.
  • Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation.
