We’re seeking a PreOp Registered Nurse (RN) on a full-time basis to join our clinical team. This role is ideal for a compassionate and detail-oriented nurse who enjoys preparing patients for surgery in a supportive and patient-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preoperative assessments, including medical history review, vital signs, and documentation
  • Provide patient education on surgical procedures, anesthesia, and post-op care instructions
  • Start IVs, administer medications, and ensure patient readiness for surgery
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to coordinate safe, efficient care
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond promptly to needs or concerns
  • Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and quality standards

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current RN license in the State of Texas
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in PreOp, PACU, or another perioperative setting preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and IV therapy skills

Required Skills

  • Strong patient assessment and triage skills to identify surgical readiness and potential risk factors
  • Proficient in starting IVs, administering preoperative medications, and ensuring accurate documentation
  • Ability to educate patients and families clearly on surgical procedures, anesthesia, and post-op care instructions
  • Skilled in maintaining a calm, supportive environment to reduce patient anxiety before surgery
  • Effective communication and collaboration with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and perioperative staff
  • Strong organizational skills for prioritizing multiple patients and preparing OR schedules
  • Commitment to patient safety, infection prevention, and quality standards

Required Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current RN license in Texas
  • BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred (or willingness to obtain within designated timeframe)
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience in PreOp, perioperative, or critical care setting preferred
  • Hands-on experience with IV therapy, medication administration, and electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
  • Background in patient education, pre-surgical clearance, and coordination of care with interdisciplinary teams
