Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Main Street is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Insurance Verification Specialist to join our team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate and timely verification of patient insurance coverage, helping our patients have a smooth experience from the very start of their care.
Responsibilities:
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage for scheduled procedures using payer portals, telephone calls, and electronic verification systems.
- Confirm patient demographics, insurance information, and procedure details to ensure claim accuracy.
- Calculate patient financial responsibility, including co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance amounts, and communicate this information to patients.
- Obtain necessary authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals prior to procedures.
- Document all verification activities in the electronic medical record (EMR) system according to center policies.
- Collaborate with scheduling, billing, and clinical teams to resolve insurance-related issues quickly.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer guidelines and policy changes.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries in a professional and empathetic manner.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or related coursework preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or a related healthcare administrative role.
- Experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) or hospital setting preferred.
- Familiarity with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans.

Required Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of insurance verification experience in a healthcare environment.
- Prior experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans.
- Background in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) or hospital preferred.
