Surgical Technologist (Scrub Tech) at Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Southwest

The Surgical Technologist plays a key role on the surgical team, ensuring a safe and efficient operating environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Scrubbing for surgical procedures and maintaining a sterile field throughout the operation
  • Preparing supplies, instruments, and equipment for scheduled procedures
  • Demonstrating competence as a member of the surgical team by anticipating the needs of the surgeon
  • Supporting the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the Surgery Center
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; completion of a Surgical Technician Program and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certification as required by the state and/or center
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and surgical patient management
  • Understanding and application of aseptic techniques
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in patient condition
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff, engage with patients, and coordinate with physicians

Required Skills

  • Expertise in surgical instrumentation and sterile technique
  • Ability to anticipate surgeon and procedural needs
  • Strong knowledge of infection control standards and safety protocols
  • Effective problem-solving and adaptability in fast-paced surgical settings
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams

Required Experience

  • Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist in an ASC or hospital setting preferred
  • Familiarity with multiple surgical specialties (orthopedic, general, ENT, ophthalmology, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate surgical counts and ensure patient safety
  • Experience preparing OR suites and managing surgical equipment and supplies
