Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for to the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private Inpatient rooms, a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in Orthopedics, Joint Replacement, Spine, General, Bariatrics, Surgical Oncology, ENT, Reconstructive Surgery, and other surgical specialties.

RN Coordinator - PreOp, PACU, PAT at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Uptown

Under the direct supervision of the PAT, Pre-op/PACU Manager, the PAT, Pre-op, PACU RN Coordinator is responsible for appropriate staff assignments. The PAT, Pre-op/PACU Coordinator is to assure an organized flow of the patients through the perioperative phase before and after surgery in an efficient and timely manner. Responsible for the coordination of staff, workflow, organization, and communication. The pre-op/pacu coordinator is responsible for the nursing activities related to the care of the patient in the perioperative phase. The pre-op/pacu coordinator is a resource person and provided guidance to non-licensed personnel. She/he can expect to care for adult patients, including the older adult through geriatric and pediatric patient from years old through adolescence. 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a hospital setting
  • Experience in PAT/Preop preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Current Texas Nursing License
  • Certification Peri-Anesthesia Nursing preferred
  • Current CPR, ACLS, PALS
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good organization habits
  • Excellent Leadership skills
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Basic knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement Ideology
  • Assumes responsibility for the contacting, by way of telephone, all patients prior to date of surgery
  • Obtain medical and medication history
  • Perform lab draws and all documentation
  • Performs EKG per doctor’s orders
  • Review patient medical record for appropriate lab, x-ray, and EKG
  • Ensure that all appropriate orders, consents, medical and medication histories, and testing results are completed and in the patient’s chart prior to the date of service
  • Communicate abnormal results and medical issues to the appropriate personnel and physicians
  • Provide pre-operative instructions pertaining to the individual and treatment to be provided
  • Answer patient questions
  • Provide clinical documentation requests by insurance companies
  • Assist with post operative telephone calls
