Registered Nurse Endoscopy at Surgi-Center of Central VA:
· Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
· Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for Endoscopy nursing care according to accepted standards.
· Provides multi-dimensional care for assigned patients. Includes patient care in the pre-procedure holding area, care in the Endoscopy suite, and care for the patient in the PACU.
· Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in endoscopic procedures.
· Demonstrates ability to understand the unique needs of each age group of the patient population.
· Prepares patients, equipment and room for Endoscopy procedures.
· Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration, patient assessment, airway maintenance, and patient teaching.
· Assesses the patient’s physiological and psychological needs.
· Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.
· Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
Qualifications
Education:
· Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing
Licensure/Certification:
· Current RN unrestricted VA license
· BLS Required
Required Experience:
· Minimum of 1-year experience in Outpatient Endoscopy or surgery
· Prefer 2 years’ experience in a GI setting
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, ensuring patients are prepared for surgery both physically and emotionally.
· Administer medications and anesthesia as directed by the anesthesiologist.
· Monitor patients closely in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), assessing their recovery and vital signs.
· Provide comprehensive patient education regarding postoperative care and expectations.
· Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure a smooth transition between preoperative and postoperative phases.
· Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
· Assist with the development and implementation of nursing care plans.
· Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
