Job Summary:

SurgCenter of Palm Beach Gardens is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Surgical First Assistant to join our outpatient surgical team. The First Assistant will play a critical role in supporting surgeons during procedures, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and surgical excellence. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about perioperative care in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center environment.


Required Skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeons during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and other technical functions to support optimal patient outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure proper patient positioning, sterile field maintenance, and equipment readiness.

  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond promptly to intraoperative requirements.

  • Apply knowledge of surgical anatomy and procedures to ensure effective first assist functions.

  • Assist with preoperative preparations and postoperative patient care as directed.

  • Maintain strict adherence to infection control, sterile technique, and patient safety protocols.

  • Accurately document intraoperative activities, counts, and patient data as required.

  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives and contribute to continuous process improvements.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or equivalent credential recognized in the state of Florida.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Minimum of 2 years of surgical first assisting experience, preferably in an outpatient or ASC setting.

  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, anatomy, and procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in orthopedics, ophthalmology, podiatry, ENT, and/or general surgery.

  • Prior experience in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environment.

  • Familiarity with EMR and case documentation standards.
