Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate PACU Registered Nurse to join our post-anesthesia care team. The PACU RN plays a key role in recovering patients safely following surgery and anesthesia. This role requires critical thinking, strong patient assessment skills, and the ability to respond quickly in high-acuity situations. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to delivering exceptional post-operative care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive post-anesthesia nursing care to patients recovering from a variety of surgical procedures
  • Monitor and assess vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, nausea, and surgical sites
  • Administer medications and manage IV therapy, oxygen support, and pain control
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and fellow nurses to ensure safe recovery and transition to discharge or next level of care
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative instructions and next steps
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to all safety, infection control, and quality standards

Required Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing)
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Texas
  • BLS (CPR) certification required
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire (if not already certified)
  • Strong post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring skills
  • Effective communication and clinical decision-making in fast-paced settings
  • Proficiency in managing airways, pain control, IVs, oxygen therapy, and monitoring systems
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in emergent or high-acuity recovery situations

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of PACU or critical care experience required
  • Experience with post-operative patients across multiple specialties preferred (e.g., Orthopedics, ENT, GI, General Surgery, Ophthalmology)
  • Pre-op or OR experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with sedation recovery protocols and discharge criteria
