Job Summary:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician will be working in the Pharmacy department supporting the hospital needs. Assists and supports the Pharmacy Department, in providing the correct drugs or IV solutions, in the correct amount, for the correct patients, at the correct time. The Pharmacy Certified Technician works directly under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist. This position should consistently demonstrate an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives and choose the appropriate course of action. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Certified Pharmacy Technician has primary responsibility in the re-stocking of anesthesia drug boxes and floor stock in the OR, PACU, Pre-op and PSU; unit dose packaging; charging; receiving and stocking within the pharmacy; compounding sterile products; unit inspections; maintaining appropriate records; and assisting in related activities as directed by the Pharmacy Director/Pharmacist-In-Charge.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and registered with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy
- Minimum 1 year inpatient hospital experience; sterile product compounding preferred
- Good organizational, problem solving and computer skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts.
- Knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Pyxis automated dispensing systems.
- Understands basic pharmaceutical nomenclature.
- Understands commonly used medical terminology and abbreviations.
- Mathematical ability to calculate dosages and amounts required
- Able to interpret physician orders including directions for use, commonly used abbreviations and symbols, number of dosage units, strength and systems of measurement, route of administration, dosage forms, and frequency of administration.
- Working knowledge of Pharmacy Medication References. Adheres to all DEA and Arizona State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Upon admission to the hospital and under supervision of the pharmacist, obtains a complete and accurate medication history for selected patient populations
- Documentation of patient medication history into electronic health record according to hospital guidelines and communication of outstanding issue/ risks to physician, nurse or pharmacist.
- High school graduate or GED.

Required Experience
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current CPR, ACLS certified.
- Possess the ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with patients, families, physicians, and employees.
- Ability to care for patients from adult to geriatrics.
- Knowledgeable of hospital policies and procedures specific to operating room nurse.
- Clinically proficient in operating room nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the developmental needs of the young adult, adult and geriatric patient.
