Registered Nurse Pre/Post at Western Carolina Surgery Center:

Preoperative Duties:

  1. Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications.
  2. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations.
  3. Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices.
  4. Infection Control: Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.
  5. IV Line Management: Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations.

 

Postoperative Duties:

  1. Recovery Care: Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being.
  2. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.
  3. Assessment: Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed.
  4. Medication Management: Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses.
  6. Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions.

 

Qualifications

Education:

·       Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Licensure/Certification:                                                     

·       BLS and ACLS Required

·       Current RN license in the state of North Carolina.

Required Experience:

·       Previous experience in a preoperative and postoperative nursing role.

·       Excellent Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.

·       Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, adapting to a fast-paced surgical environment.
