Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment to support high-quality patient care at the Laser & Surgery Center of Palm Beaches. The technician ensures that all instrumentation is properly processed in accordance with industry standards and facility protocols, playing a critical role in infection prevention and surgical efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontaminate, clean, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and medical equipment.

  • Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment per manufacturer and facility guidelines.

  • Conduct quality assurance checks to verify the integrity and cleanliness of all instruments before release.

  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological tests, and equipment maintenance.

  • Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to ensure availability and timely delivery of sterile instruments.

  • Monitor and manage inventory of sterile supplies and surgical sets, reporting discrepancies or restocking needs.

  • Adhere to all infection control, safety, and compliance protocols including OSHA and AAMI standards.

  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and technology in sterile processing.


Required Skills

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in sterile processing or central supply preferred (ambulatory surgery center experience is a plus).

  • Knowledge of infection control standards and sterilization techniques.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift instrument trays up to 25 lbs.

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
