Functions as a clinical leader/expert in informatics nursing. Practice aims at achieving quality outcomes through education of staff. Possesses refined knowledge and skills pertinent to the technology neeeds of staff and physicians. Collaborates and consults with other healthcare professionals/IT professionals to advance healthcare practice and processes through education of staff, effective use of the Electronic Health Record(EHR) and the processes "mandated" via the IT system ultimately improving clinical/customer outcomes. Provides mentorship to staff.


Required Skills

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Certification in Informatics preferred.
  • Two or more years of clinical/education experience preferred.
  • Meditech experience preferred.

Required License and Certifications

  • Current California nursing license.
  • BLS Certificate.
  • ACLS Certificate preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Acts as a liaison between the physicians and the clinical staff in terms of maximization of the Electronic Health Record system and related applications as it pertains to optimal use of the system and associated patient care processes.
  • Assumes a lead role in identifying additional system needs such as clinical applications that would enhance program effectiveness and/or efficiencies and implementing these accordingly.
  • Assist with building, testing, implementing new clinical applications as needed.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians learning to effectively utilize the Electronic Health Record system.
  • Document, track, and follow-up on all reported problems, enhancement requests and system changes for clinical modules.
  • Functions as a leader and developer of a Super User Team, comprised of nurses/staff from each area/department of the hospital.
  • This group would assist the Informatics Nurse role with developing and training staff as well as providing input from their areas about development needs.
  • Internal resource to departments in process improvement pertaining to use of technology to enhance care, improve upon documentation, gain efficiencies, etc. Provides support to the finance department in terms of maintaining the chargemaster, as needed.
  • Provides staff education as needed to improve Meaningful Use data capturing.
  • Responsible for assuring the overall successful implementation and maintenance of Electronic Health Record modules.
  • Responsible for building documentation to capture Meaningful Use data.
  • Responsible for the development of physician related applications.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of the Meditech PCS application.
  • Will assure an understanding of the integration between applications as it relates to Electronic Health Records.
  • Review monthly Meaningful Use audits.
  • Serve as the focal point for communication with all clinical departments and IT department.
  • Test of all clinical (PCS/EMR/POM) module software updates/new releases.
  • Acts as the primary Meditech Analyst.
  • Other duties as assigned.
