This position is assisting in leading the Sterile Processing team. Preparing and storing hospital supplies, surgical instruments, and equipment.
Salary: $25 - $43 (Depending on Experience)
Hours: 8 Hour Exempt
Required Skills
Minimum Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience
Required License and Certification
- CRCST or CPSPD required
- CIS or CSIS certification required within one year of hire or entry into job.

Essential Functions
- Make recommendations for hire, performance and personnel decisions
- Relief Lead Duties
- Mentor and Precept new employees. Orients, teaches and willingly shares information with others
- Ensures the department operations are continuous and performed in an assembly line style.
- Ensures all instruments are decontaminated and sterilized according to approved standards.
- Makes certain that assignments will be per each 8 hour shift.
- Ensures that all instruments and sets are completed on a daily basis and items are only to be left undone during extreme circumstances.
- Acts as a liaison between staff and Materials Management/Sterile Processing Director.
- Oversees daily assignments and productivity levels of assigned shift.
- Works with the Sterile Processing Manager to resolve concerns and process improvement
- Responsible for training and overseeing the daily activities of the instrument technicians.
- Performs daily inspection of instrument sets according to specifications.
- Assists and actively participates in the ordering and replacement of all missing instruments and implants.
- Assists and actively participates in identifying instruments that need to go out for repair.
- Ensures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis. Files requisitions and inventories supplies.
- Coordinates loaning and borrowing of instruments.
- Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.
- Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization.
- Monitors sterility dates on supplies. Processes or oversees all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Service.
- Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.
- Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift.
- Records results in appropriate log.
- Stores prepared articles and supplies in designated areas.
- Understands specialty equipment, keeps knowledge up-to-date, is technical resource for others, follows technology practices and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
