Orderly at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Trophy Club:

·       Under the direct supervision of the Director of Surgical Services the Orderly is responsible for support services as well as specific elements of direct patient care given in the Surgical Services Department.

·       The Orderly assists with surgery flow (turnover of surgical suites), assures that adequate supplies are available as needed, cleaning, trash disposal, and any other duties assigned by his/her Supervisor or the Director of Surgical Services.

Qualifications

Education:

·       High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification:    

·       BLS required

Required Experience:

·       Minimum 1-year experience in a hospital setting preferred

·       OR or EMT experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·  Good communication and people skills

·  Excellent customer service skills

·  Basic knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement ideology

·  Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record System

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Operating Room Preparation & Cleanliness

·       Preparing the OR by setting up necessary equipment and supplies.

·       Cleaning and disinfecting surgical rooms before and after procedures.

·       Assisting in maintaining a sterile environment by handling non-sterile items.

Equipment & Supply Management

·       Ensuring surgical instruments, linens, and equipment are properly stocked.

·       Transporting surgical instruments for sterilization.

·       Assisting in the maintenance and transportation of OR equipment.

Assisting Surgical Team

·       Helping nurses and surgical staff with basic tasks during procedures.

·       Positioning and securing patients on operating tables.

·       Running errands within the hospital, such as retrieving blood, specimens, or additional equipment.

Safety & Infection Control

·       Following hospital protocols for infection prevention.

·       Disposing of medical waste properly.

Reporting equipment malfunctions or hazards to the appropriate personnel.
