PIH Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Ophthalmic Assistant to join our Ophthalmology department on a per-diem basis, primarily during daytime hours. As an integral member of our healthcare team, you will be performing patient-oriented procedures and services under the guidance of the department Office Manager, Administrative Manager, and/or practitioners within our medical office setting. This role requires flexibility as you may need to travel to different practice locations within the PIH Health La Mirada Medical Office Building (LM) and other associated facilities. PIH Health is a nonprofit, regional healthcare network that serves approximately 3 million residents across Los Angeles County, Orange County, and the San Gabriel Valley region. Our network includes multiple hospitals, outpatient medical office buildings, a multispecialty medical group, and a range of healthcare services. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will be expected to have a strong foundation in medical terminology, infection control, and safety protocols. You will also need to possess in-depth knowledge of various eye diseases and a good understanding of all Medical Assistant competencies. Proficiency with computerized practice management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and electronic health records systems is essential. Your role will involve managing telephone communications effectively, maintaining organization within the office, and demonstrating excellent problem-solving and communication skills. A valid driver's license, car insurance policy coverage, and reliable transportation are required for travel between locations. The position is hourly, with a salary range of $29.00 per hour. This is a regular/at-will employment opportunity, offering the flexibility that comes with per-diem work.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and safety
- In-depth knowledge about various eye diseases
- Good understanding of all Medical Assistant competencies
- Knowledge of computer keyboard, ability to type at least 40 words per minute
- Knowledge of computerized practice management systems and other computerized systems (Microsoft Office programs and electronic health records systems)
- Good telephone management skills
- Good organization skills
- Ability to identify and solve problems
- Good communication skills, bilingual in Spanish helpful
- Valid driver’s license and car insurance policy coverage; reliable transportation
Required Experience
- Formal training indicated by a high school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of Ophthalmology experience
- Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced situations
- Ability to work in an environment involving a high level of activity
- Preferred: 2 years back-office experience
