The RN Stroke Coordinator is a clinical leader for the Stroke Program. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in acute stroke care, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and leadership change. These skills are necessary to advance the practice of nursing and the professional development of nurses. The specialized knowledge and skills are used within three major areas of focus: patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. The RN Stroke Coordinator orchestrates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within stroke patient care. RN Stroke Coordinator is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies. RN Stroke Coordinator is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge and competencies and contributing to the advancement of the practice of nursing at the unit/system, local, and state level. The RN Stroke Coordinator reports to the System Director of Quality Programs.

Required Skills

  • Analytical skills, knowledge of Joint Commission Disease Specific Stroke Certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Service Comprehensive Stroke Center designation requirements.
  • Effective written/oral communications.
  • Problem-solving skills and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement tools, Plan Do Check Act performance improvement methodology and techniques.
  • Personal computer skills and knowledge of applicable software programs.
  • Knowledge of trends in nursing practice.
  • Clinical competence.
  • Demonstrated expertise in acute stroke patient care; assessment, intervention, management, and education.
  • Ability to promote team-building among multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Independent performer.
  • Demonstrate leadership abilities focusing on self-direction/empowerment.
  • Ability to analyze various sources of outcome data.

Required Experience

Required:

  • Graduate from accredited school of nursing 
  • Current California RN License
  • Minimum three (3) years-clinical experience in Critical Care/Emergency/Stroke care setting
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in formal and informal setting
  • Current BLS certification
  • Knowledgeable in the principles of adult learning
  • NIHSS
  • Stroke Education 8 hours/year
  • LA City Fire Card within six (6) months of employment 

Preferred:

  • MSN degree with expertise in Acute Stroke Care

Minimum Salary

$114,400.00

Maximum Salary

$182,104.00
