As the Communications Equipment Technician, you will provide technical services required to maintain, operate, and support unclassified and classified and standalone/closed communication systems. Maintain and repair radio-related electronics such as radios, communications switches, Land Mobile Radios, towers, repeaters and antennas. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Ensure that communication systems are in compliance with assigned Mission Assurance Category (MAC) and Confidentiality Level IAW DAFI 31-101.
· Perform Property Custodian (PC) duties for all GFE IT assets IAW DAFMAN 17-1203 (CDRL A016).
· Provide customer services to base-level users and Customer Support Associates to serve as focal points for network, to include Air Force IT services and problem resolution.
· Ensure early and proactive detection of system faults through use of AF compatible system performance tools.
· Provide mission support, O&M and management of all aspects of base communications.
· Provide an on-site technical capability to implement physical network changes and modifications and restoration of faulty network transmission equipment and circuits when directed by the I-NOSC, AFNOC or DISA.
· Maintain corrosion prevention and control program and perform corrosion prevention and control activities on communication and supporting infrastructure hardware IAW T.O. 00-33A-1001 and applicable directives.
· Manage the TMDE program.
· Maintain and operate all test equipment required for maintenance of communication assets IAW T.O. 00-20-14, T.O. 00-33A-1001 and applicable directives.
· Provide Client Service Technician (CST) support for the Government and Contractor workforce and Mission Support Communication systems.
· Perform O&M and administration for the telephone switch, remote switches, battery backup, distribution plant, transport equipment and ancillary equipment associated with the telephone switching systems to include hardware, software, firmware installations on the switch and backup and restore activities.
· Perform technical duties to include maintaining, installing, troubleshooting and repairing telephone switching systems; data transmission media systems; telephone and data circuitry equipment to include T-carrier, fiber-optic modems and multiplexers and associated hardware equipment IAW T.O.-00-33A-1001, AFNETOPS and the MICT checklists for telephone systems
· Install and remove communication cables, modems, terminal blocks and telephone instruments.
· Support the survey, design, installation, relocation and removal of telephone instruments and systems
· Perform preventive maintenance inspections IAW T.O. 00-33A-1001.
· Provide portable PA (including cabling) support for executive-level Government functions as tasked via CIPS work order IAW Table AH-2
· Operate, repair, install, replace and maintain all public address, intercom, aural warning systems.
· Operate and maintain the LMR System to include server, devices, poles, mounts, and associated components.
· Provide emergency radio network support for search-and-rescue operations and for disaster preparedness.
· Install, operate & maintain wireless network segments to include access points and air monitors interfacing with the unclassified network.
· Perform Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) on data equipment IAW T.O. 00-33A-1001 Paragraph 5 (or current version).
· Install and maintain transport systems; long-haul circuit management and operations; keying circuit encryption equipment; and installing infrastructure network equipment.
· Perform assessments, surveys, engineering support, installations, replacements (scheduled and unscheduled), troubleshooting, ticket escalation, outage resolution, maintain, operate and support of all the virtual and physical hardware and software
· infrastructure of the Communication and Air Force Information Networks assets
· Install and maintain interior and exterior fiber optic and copper cable plant systems.
· Install, maintain and document inside and outside cable plants in CIPS/CVC or current Government system for communication systems and facilities IAW T.O. 00-33A-1001, UFC 3-580-01 Telecommunications Interior Infrastructure Planning and Design.
· Maintain and support all physical data, voice, and video cabling and supporting infrastructure within applicable standards to support the transport of voice, video and data.

· Provide antenna systems include the supporting structures and attached guying members, radiating wires, elements or devices, transmission line, terminating components and hardware required to support a single antenna in an operational environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum of three (3) years of experience and expertise related specifically to O&M of communication infrastructure to include telecommunications cable; telecommunications equipment; and/or radio, cellular, and tower equipment.
· Candidate must possess at least 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, installing, programming, troubleshooting, and repairing radio systems such as but not limited to P25 repeaters, fixed, vehicle mounted & portable radios.
· Be familiar with IT concepts, practices and procedures, and have certification IAW DoDI 8500.01 and industry standards.
· Be Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) technician(s) certified and trained IAW SLD 45I 17-213.
· The candidate must be able to operate standard LMR testing, repair and diagnostic equipment such as RF signal generators, RF antenna testers RF watt meters, Digital multi-meters, Communications System Analyzers, soldering stations and irons, basic hand tools, encryption key-loaders, battery maintenance systems, climbing safety equipment use/inspection and redundant solar and wind generators.
