As the Environmental Technician, you will conduct tests and field investigations to obtain data to be used by environmental, engineering, and scientific person­nel to determine sources and methods of controlling pollu­tants in air, water, and soil, utilizing knowledge in engineering princi­ples and applied technologies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Conducts chemical and physical laboratory and field tests to determine characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials and substances.
• Collects samples of gases from smokestacks, and collects other air samples and meteorological data to assist in evaluation of atmospheric pollutants.
• Collects water samples from semi-processed or processed water, industrial waste water, or water from other sources to assess pollution problem. Collects soil, silt, or mud to determine chemical composition and nature of pollutants.
• Prepares sample for testing, records data, and prepares summaries and charts for review.
• Installs, oper­ates, and performs routine maintenance on I gas and fluid flow systems, chemical reaction systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation.
• May conduct bacte­riological or other tests related to research in environ­mental or pollution control activity.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Must have an Associate Degree with science major and four (4) years performing related duties.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Must have knowledge of federal, state, and installation environmental regulations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Valid U.S. Passport (preferred)

Valid U.S. Driver’s License with clean driving report
