As the Air Traffic Control Communication Technician, you shall maintain and repair electronics such as military and commercial off the shelf transmit/receiver radios, digital voice recording systems (DVRS), enhanced terminal voice switches (ETVS), land mobile radios/base station (LMR), and communications switches.
The individual shall demonstrate the ability to apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems (i.e., those that cannot be solved solely by properly interpreting manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents) in working on electronic equipment. Work requires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments, usually less complex than those used by the Level III Technician.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (not limited to duties as described – performs related duties as requested)
- Perform system repairs and preventive maintenance on Air Traffic Control Communications systems and related equipment such as Voice Communication Switching Systems (VCCS), ETVS (BS2) Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch, ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service), DVRS (Digital Voice Recording System) and associated radios which may include, CM-200 Ground to Air radio, Jotron 7000 series, Rohde & Schwarz 4100/4400 Series Digital Radios.
- Inspects and performs operational checks on equipment at specified intervals determining operational status.
- Isolates malfunctions by prescribed systems checking procedures, visual inspections, voltage checks and other tests using electronic test equipment.
- Inspection/repairing of antenna systems and cabling.
- Replaces defective components.
- COMSEC procedure and management.
- Maintains inspection and maintenance records.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support to information technology systems and equipment (at some locations).
- Maintain Facilities Status Records.
- Experience working with ATC VSAT systems.
- Performance preventative maintenance on ATC VSAT equipment.
- Configuring/reconfiguring ATC VSAT networks.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma or GED.
- Must have attended a DOD or FAA electronics or industrial school course of instruction, or an accredited correspondence school.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience/background in electronics repair, maintenance and testing and a minimum 2 years electronic repair maintenance and test of the ATC Communications systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on SkyWAN ATC VSAT equipment is a plus.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATIONS:
- May be required to obtain additional computer security certifications per site specific requirements.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and be able to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission.
- Must be willing to travel within the AOR on short notice to perform corrective maintenance and periodic scheduled maintenance for secondary locations.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Knowledge and skills to maintain and repair ATC communications systems and related equipment.
- Knowledge and skills working with electricity and electronics.
- Ability to use specialized test equipment and software to isolate malfunctions.
- Must have the technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of electronic systems or electronic equipment.
- Familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment in planning work sequence and in selecting tools and testing instruments, usually less complex than those used by the Level III Technician.
- Participate in and provide technical assistance during system flight inspections.
- Maintain records for accountability of all parts of appropriate systems, spare parts and requisitioning of spare parts.
- Proper safety procedures in system maintenance and operation IAW OSHA guidelines.
- Knowledge of electricity and electronic circuitry.
- Knowledge and the ability to interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics, manuals, handbooks and technical specifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Candidates must be physically able and willing to work long hours to meet mission and contract requirements.
- Must be able to pass employment and pre-deployment qualification requirements that include medical, drug testing, and background checks, etc.
