Position Details

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management are seeking an intern who will work with recreation staff to help manage trails in the Richfield Field Office. We have over 40 miles of mountain bike trails, and over 2,000 miles of motorized trails that we manage with the Fishlake National Forest.

 

Position Responsibilities will include:

·        Working with partner organizations to best manage the Paiute and Paker Mountain motorized trail systems.

·        Work with community mountain bike committees to manage and maintain single track mountain bike trail systems in multiple communities.

·        Work with volunteers to coordinate the signing of the new Parker Mountain Trail System.

·        Work with supervisor to select and map project survey boundaries.

·        Determine status of sites, designation level, and work with supervisor through Tribal Consultation and the SHPO process

·        Educate youth and the general public on site etiquette – how to respect and protect these resources.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·        High School Diploma or equivalent

·        Must be currently enrolled in college or university

·        Have interest in recreation.

·        Be willing to work with a wide variety of people.

·        Be professional and reliable.

·        Valid US Drivers License with insurable driving record of at least 3 years

·        Applicants must pass a criminal background checks for both DOI and AmeriCorps eligibility

·        Must be 18 years or older

·        Must be a US Citizen or legal permanent resident.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Education in recreation or related natural resources.

Exposure to multiple natural resource specialist positions and programs.

·        Better understanding of how the Bureau of Land Management manages public lands.

·        Great experience in working with multiple groups with differing viewpoints. Great practice finding solutions that meet multiple objectives.
