Program Description

Join us and learn about a career in land management and conservation programming while operating as a critical voice for access within our public lands. Youth Empowerment Stewards (YES) internships are seasonal, 12-week positions supported Conservation Legacy’s Stewards program. YES internships are available to individuals with a disability 18-26 years of age and Veterans up to age 35. 

 

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The YES program interns focusing on barriers to entry for individuals with disabilities in the outdoor workplace. This position will be working as a YES Intern with Colonial National Historical Parks.

 

The Y.E.S intern position would be strategic in the program's recovery from the COVID-19pandemic and redesign of the volunteer program. This intern would be offered a 100% virtual position if they so choose. The intern will be focused on completing 2 projects during their time at the park. The first would be redesigning the parks volunteer handbook. Volunteers complete a wide variety of tasks at the park such as maintenance, landscaping, bluebird monitoring, turtle monitoring, assisting in the library and much more. The handbook would include information on safety, uniforms, emergency contact numbers, etc. The second project would be to assist in the creation of the volunteer programs standard operating procedures (SOP). An example SOP will be provided for the intern to base Colonial National Historical Parks (COLO) off of. Pre-COVID, the volunteer program at COLO had 18,846.5 hours reported, equating to $402,561.24of work in environmental stewardship, maintenance, archeology, and interpretive services. A multitude of trainings will be available to the intern.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 18-26 years of age (maximum 35 years old for Veterans with valid DD-214)
  • US citizen or legal resident
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work
  • Pass background checks: all offers of positions are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal and/or State criminal background
  • Expected to take a serious attitude toward safety.
  • Substance Free
  • Bachelor’s degree or working towards completion of one
  • Preferred experience using Microsoft Office Suite
