Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIP in partnership with the Weir Farm national historical Park are seeking an intern who will provide a broad exposure to museum collections management and include a project to scan, photograph, and digitize collections and create an online exhibit.  The intern will assist the park’s curatorial division with management of the park’s museum collections on exhibit in the historically furnished Weir House, Weir Studio, Young Studio and in storage in its storage facilities.


Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine museum preservation and historic housekeeping on collections objects and historic structures where museum objects are exhibited or stored
  • Museum documentation cataloging using DOI Museum Collections Software (ICMS)
  • Museum object photography
  • Scanning of archival materials
  • Historic photograph database and art reproducible database additions/updating
  • Assist with annual inventories of museum collections
  • Assist with environmental monitoring including temperature and humidity, light readings, and integrated pest management
  • Assist with researcher requests
  • Assist with special projects including improvement to museum storage
  • Participate in public outreach programs including design of an online exhibit of collections for the park website and additions to the NPS Web Catalog
  • Other duties may be assigned as mutually agreed upon


Minimum Requirements:

  • the ability to lift artifact boxes, furniture, and equipment
  • ability to bend, stoop and crawl
  • willingness to work in variable temperatures (hot, cool, and humid)
  • willingness to get hands dirty with routine light cleaning in historic structures
  • ability to be dexterous and spatially mindful
  • basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • experience in the NPS CMS system or other website design program
  • ability to work with park staff, independently or in a group
  • possess excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • 18- 30 years of age (35 for veterans)
