JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Academic & Financial Assistance Advisor provides comprehensive support to prospective and current students at the Cameron University Duncan campus. This position delivers integrated academic advising and financial assistance to support students through enrollment, persistence, and completion.

The advisor serves as a primary point of contact for enrollment and academic planning, student success, financial aid assistance, and proactive outreach for students at the Duncan campus and at Duncan area high schools. Responsibilities include providing individualized academic counseling on placement, course selection, major exploration, and academic performance, while maintaining regular communication with assigned students and connecting them to appropriate campus resources and support services.

This position reports directly to the Director of the Duncan Campus.



Job Duties

Academic Advising

  • Advise Duncan students on course selection, degree planning, and academic pathways.
  • Evaluate student eligibility for coursework using test scores, prior coursework, and institutional requirements.
  • Assist students with schedule development and enrollment, including adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses in accordance with academic policies and deadlines.
  • Interpret degree plans and utilize advising tools (e.g., degree audits, institutional systems) to guide students toward timely degree completion.
  • Provide guidance on academic policies, procedures, and key dates (e.g., academic calendar, enrollment deadlines, graduation requirements).
  • Monitor and address student barriers to enrollment, including academic and administrative holds, and coordinate with appropriate campus offices to resolve issues.
  • Document advising interactions, maintain accurate student records, and conduct proactive outreach to support retention and re-enrollment efforts.
  • Build relationships with local high schools and assist with concurrent enrollment advising, including off-site visits and informational sessions.
  • Support schedule planning and course demand insights for the Duncan campus in collaboration with campus leadership.
  • Respond to student concerns and complaints, facilitating resolution in coordination with faculty and administration as appropriate.

Financial Assistance

  • Guide students through the financial aid process, including completing the FAFSA and understanding financial aid eligibility, awards, and requirements.
  • Review student financial aid status using institutional systems and explain awards, verification requirements, and next steps.
  • Assist students in resolving financial aid issues, including missing documentation, verification processes, and satisfactory academic progress (SAP) concerns.
  • Educate students on the financial implications of enrollment decisions (e.g., adding, dropping, withdrawing from courses).
  • Review student account balances and payment activity, and refer students to appropriate offices for payment or account resolution.
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, including Oklahoma’s Promise.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in navigating student-specific academic and financial situations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with student information systems, CRM/advising platforms, and standard office technologies.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a student-facing, service-oriented environment.
  • Comfort with outreach, presentations, and relationship-building with students, families, and community partners.


 

SALARY RANGE: 34,500.00
