Postdoctoral Fellow - Wu Laboratory
The Wu Laboratory studies glucose and lipid metabolism in metabolic disease and aging, particularly how diet affects inflammation which plays a role in development of many diseases. The lab is ultimately interested in identifying early signs of metabolic dysfunction to delay or prevent age-related health issues such as diabetes, neurodegeneration, and cancer. We use many different systems and techniques in our studies: genetic models, tissue culture, genomics, metabolomics, biochemical assays, and protein structural analysis.
The candidate should have significant experience in cellular signaling and metabolism, should be familiar with techniques including tissue culture, western blot, qPCR, cloning and immunoprecipitation. There are different project options available depending on the candidate’s interests and strengths. These include but not limited to:
- Origin of diet induced inflammation in adipose tissue
- Novel glucose regulated transcriptional programs in liver
- Mechanism of regulation on fatty acids shuttling in liver and its role in ER stress

Van Andel Institute is a leading independent biomedical research facility dedicated to determining the epigenetic, genetic, molecular and cellular origins of cancer, Parkinson’s and other diseases, and translating those findings into effective therapies. The Institute is home to more than 400 scientists and support staff that work in on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.
VAI provides postdoctoral training opportunities to scientists beginning their research careers (https://vari.vai.org/postdoctoral/). The fellowships are to help promising scientists advance their knowledge and research experience and at the same time support the research endeavors of VAI under the mentorship of a VAI Faculty member. All VAI Postdoctoral Fellows are encouraged to apply for external funding as soon as it is practical and reasonable after hire. Receiving a fellowship award provides recognition for both the fellow and VAI!
