Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a MRI Technologist - Full Time Evenings 03:00 PM - 11:00 PM - Rotating schedule/weekends - MRI - Radio.

In this role, the successful candidate Provides health care services, applying magnetic energy in a safe way to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs magnetic imaging procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. The MRI technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human cross-section anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology. By performing all tasks in an efficient, responsible and caring manner, the employee will be dedicated to meet the needs of customers and staff. In doing so, will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group serviced as well as those persons with disabilities

Job Responsibilities:

    1. Operates MRI equipment in accordance with all federal and state regulations
    • Responsibly operates MRI scanning resulting in high throughput without sacrificing image quality.
    • Operates MRI equipment in accordance with State, Federal codes.
    1. Maintains an active and thorough knowledge of the concepts, techniques and protocols utilized in MRI.
    • Keeps current of the fast changing technology of MRI through independent research and study. Maximizes quality of exams through use of background knowledge, appropriate technique and defined protocols as prescribed by each institution.
    1. Provides patient with appropriate comfort and care:
    • Ensures patient comfort before, during and after the exam (i.e. provides earplugs, blankets, pillows, etc.).  Answers questions and explains procedures thoroughly to all patients.
    • Maintains patient dignity and modesty through proper gowning and covering for the patient.
    • Talking to the patient in a concerned, professional manner (age appropriate).
    • Utilizing standard precautions and transmission-based precautions.
    • Provide proper instructions for moving and breathing.
    • Assessing the patient’s safety and security while in the department.
    • Verifying patient identification/checking armband.
    • Introducing himself/herself to the patient.
    • Providing appropriate assistance to the imaging table, based on patient’s condition.
    1. Evaluates and corrects problems arising from computer software or machine software.
    • Understands system enough to troubleshoot most problems that arise. Promptly communicates equipment status with service manufacturer, and Chief Technologist
    1. Provides necessary patient information and data to assist physicians with interpretation:
    • Ensures that patient consents, questionnaires, histories, and protocol sheets are completed.  Enhances scan quality through use of system capabilities, (i.e. annotation, mags of pathology and additional sequences when needed).

 

    1. Verifies informed consent and assists during interventional procedures; applies aseptic techniques, and evaluates order requisition by:
    • identifying patient
    • identifying procedures to be performed
    • checking chart or RX for order
    • verifying pertinent clincal history and reason for exam
    • determining utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, gown, eye shields)
    • reviewing request for verification of pregnancy Y/N status, if appropriate
    1. Maintains knowledge of basis nursing care
    • Continually provides quality patient care and safety.  Notifies nursing staff and physicians when appropriate. 

 

    1. Operates functions of HIS/RIS in accordance with hospital and department policy by:
    • Performing all tracking and other functions appropriate to their job

 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Completion of a two year approved ARRT school. BLS required.
Must have (1-2) years current MRI experience and MRI certification.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $93,288.00 - $105,456.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
