Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Boiler Operator - Full Time; Flexible Day/Evening/Night shifts rotating schedule - Plant Operations.

In this role, the successful candidate Ability to perform all tasks in the Boiler Operators field that improves the facilities environment of care for patients, employees and visitors at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. Performs any and all other duties as directed by Engineering Management/Leadership whether of an emergent nature or otherwise and assists other maintenance personnel as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

• Follows established start-up and shutdown procedures.
• Ensures operating temperatures, levels and pressures are within guidelines.
• Able to follow switch over procedures from gas to oil operation.
• Performs boiler water test following guidelines and procedures.
• Performs boiler teardown, and follow tube cleaning procedures.
• Follow safe operating procedures and guidelines.
• Follows established start-up and shut-down procedures.
• Ensures operating temperatures and pressures for various load conditions are proper.
• Follows established procedure for purge pump operation.
• Uses safe operating and handling procedures for refrigerant used in absorption chillers.
• Monitors flow and safe operating levels of sewage through plant.
• Ensures safe operation during adverse conditions.
• Performs backwash, decant and wasting procedures as needed.
• Ensures pump sequencing and pressures needed for proper operation.
• Follows guidelines for re-starting after power interruption.
• Handles safely toxic substances used in and created by plant operation
• Adjusts water flows and pressures controlled by pumps to proper levels.
• Ensures levels in tanks and towers, fed by circulating pumps, are correct.
• Ensures operation of all pumps used in the circulation of water, are within guidelines.
• Ensures operation of steam converters, flow and integrity in system.
• Adjust operation of pneumatic and electrical controls used in the control of pumps and steam converters.
• Follows safe operation guidelines of all equipment used for ground maintenance. (snow blowers, tractor with plow, grass cutting equipment, etc.).
• Maintain cleanliness, safety and ascetic qualities of all hospital grounds and buildings. (trash removal and cleaning of break areas, walkways and parking lots).
• Maintains the cleanliness of storage and power plant area.
• Follows guidelines established for the care and storage of equipment used in ground maintenance.
• Performs minor electrical repairs. (Change light bulbs and switches).
• Responds to service calls and completes paper work upon job completion.
• Performs minor plumbing. (Clogged pipes, leaking fixtures, flushometers).
• Perform minor carpentry. (Locks and hole repair).
• Perform minor equipment repair. (Assemble, repair and make safe for use).
• Repairs patient related equipment including but not limited to, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.
• Performs any and all duties as directed by engineering management whether of an emergent nature or otherwise and assists other maintenance personnel as needed.
• Fills out daily time report or watch engineers log.
• Researches, fills out and track purchase order requests.
• Records daily oxygen reading and forwards to responsible authority.
• Monitors, tracks and records flow rates in sewer treatment plant.
• Monitors, test and records boiler water chemical analysis test.
• Thoroughly describes actions taken/or additional actions needed on each work order or PM.
• Maintains and documents required preventive maintenance testing results and ensures and documents that corrective actions for any deficiencies found during testing are complete.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalency.
Ability to stand/walk for an entire 7.5 hour shift.
Ability to lift heavy objects and material.
Knowledge and ability to make repairs to boiler room, building and sewer treatment plant equipment.
Ability to read/write in order to understand and follow written instructions to ensure operation is in accordance with codes and regulations and document data and observe meters, manipulate valves and test and treat boiler water. BLS certification, de-escalation and first aid training.
Approximately one to two years related experience necessary to trouble-shoot malfunctioning equipment and fully understand boiler and sewer plant equipment operation.
Write in order to post data onto log sheet and operate and make repairs to boiler room and sewer plant equipment as normally acquired through the completion of technical training.
Requires analytical skills necessary to detect malfunctions of a limited complexity and perform necessary adjustments and/or repairs required to maintain continuous operation of both boiler room equipment and sewer plant.
Requires interpersonal skills necessary to exchange factual information with departmental supervision and other hospital personnel.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,625.44 - $89,787.98 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
