Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Unit Secretary- SICU- Full Time, Days
In this role, the successful candidate under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee and according to established policies and procedures provides clerical support for assigned nursing unit/units This includes order transcription computer entry medical record maintenance and telephone and electronic communication management Participates in the orientation of new employees
Job Responsibilities:
Order Transcription/Computer Entry
Demonstrates accuracy in transcription of physician orders to the Kardex
Enters date initial and CRT for each order following computer entry
Demonstrates accurate and timely computer entry of patients admission/ongoing orders and enters discharge transfer or expiration data
Communicates with nursing staff to insure timely management of STAT orders
Organizes workload to ensure timely entry of physician orders
Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures
Documents accurately and legibly on all documents
Completes inventory and arranges for supply order as directed
Completes requirement for data entry on height weight and allergy screens at time of patient admission
Updates advanced directive screen when indicated
Medical Record Maintenance
Maintains confidentiality of patients medical records
Assembles medical record for newly admitted patients
Provides for timely and efficient filing of reports in the medical record
Maintains and updates medical records to insure filing and labeling accuracy
Prepares photocopies and routes the medical record to designated sites upon patients discharge transfer or expiration
Maintains overflow medical records in accurate order
Maintains adequate charting materials and supplies on the unit
Telephone and Electronic Communication
Utilizes appropriate technique when answering the telephone
Answers telephone calls in a friendly and courteous manner
Demonstrates ability to access the hospital in house paging system
Responds to routine inquires and relays calls and messages
Demonstrates the ability to complete the tasks of facsimile transmission and photocopy duplication
Updates and forwards daily census to the Admitting Department in compliance with the daily requirement
Customer/Interpersonal Relations
Demonstrates awareness and participates in activities that support customer satisfaction
Performs timely notification of transfers discharges expirations to the Admitting Office Nursing Supervision after 4:00PM to facilitate the admission process
Interacts effectively with the staff on the unit and in other departments
Accepts assignments willingly and goes to other units when required
Willingly completes various errands as requested
Works collaboratively with management to improve the environment of care for patients family and personnel
Seeks out and utilizes the Nurse Manager or Nursing Administrative Supervisor to address issues that require their assistance to resolve
Participates in the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of policy and procedure nand supports measures to improve practice
Maintains personal appearance as outlined in organizational guidelines
Continuing Education/Meeting Attendance
Attends and participates in educational programs and meetings offered in the hospital to maintain competence
Complies with staff meeting attendance requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or GED Ability to read and write at a level normally acquired through completion of high school to complete order entry comprehension of written or verbal instructions order transcription and medical record maintenance Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with hospital personnel medical staff and patients or family Basic analytical skills necessary in order to gather and interpret routine data maintain records and organize workload Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail to complete required services in accordance with established schedules and deadlines

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $46,644.00 - $46,644.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
