Job Description:
The position facilitates Department of English office operations, such as mail sorting, answering phones and emails, making photocopies, and generally assisting students and faculty with office related activities. In addition, the position serves to support the English Department’s community environment more generally, including social media presence, physical space decoration, and event support. Preferred skills: strong writing, designing with Canva (or similar design platform), managing Google calendars and drives.
Duties and Responsibilities may include:
● Staffing department office, answering phone calls, and handling drop-in inquiries by
students and faculty,
● Communicating work requests with Physical Plant and IT through their portal systems,
● Monitoring department emails, including writing responses to inquiries,
● Sorting mail, filing and shredding items, and similar office-related tasks,
● Overseeing tidiness of department office and lobbies,
● Assuring that office supplies are inventoried, available, and ordered as needed,
● Designing flyers for department events and managing the department’s Instagram,
● Designing bulletin board and case displays, often on a theme related to English studies or specific holidays,
● Proctoring assessment instruments under direction from the department chair, and
● Fulfilling other tasks assigned by the department chair and faculty.
Wage Range: $16.50 per hour
Must be a current La Sierra University student.
10 hours per week.
