Head Women’s Flag Football Coach

Our coaches are actively engaged in the La Sierra community and embrace the mission and values of La Sierra University. Under indirect supervision, this position is responsible for coaching, character development and providing direction to student athletes so that they may achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in women’s flag football. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director, keeping them abreast of all planning, organizing, staff and development of La Sierra University’s women’s flag football program.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student athlete
  • Purchase equipment and uniforms, and maintaining records of all purchases
  • Ensure that all women’s flag football players meet eligibility requirements and prepare eligibility forms to be sent to the NAIA, and conference member schools
  • Develop a training schedule within the 24 weeks of NAIA calendar
  • Make all travel arrangements for the team, and drive the teams to the games (CDL license needed)
  • Recruit a team of a minimum of 20 student athletes with the guidance of the Athletics Director
  • Develop fundraisers to improve the women’s flag football program
  • Conduct women’s flag football camps to provide a community service to the youth in our area and any other interested youths.
  • Provide women’s flag football information and statistics to area and media
  • Develop a recruitment plan and actively recruit student/athletes
  • Keep up to date statistics during the season and provide information as needed
  • Develop and actively participate in a plan to enhance public relations for the women’s flag football program
  • Track the progress of each player in all classes
  • Establish and maintain an ethical and moral code of behavior and living that is expected of the players that are residing on campus
  • Develop practice schedules and teach the fundamental skills and drills of the game of women’s flag football (Take one mandatory “day off”). At least 5 days of practice a week is required
  • Develop a weight training and fitness program
  • Travel and work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of various groups and programs of the university
  • Support the philosophy and mission of La Sierra University
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Communication (e-mails, texts, and phone calls) with coworkers, faculty, other coaches and recruits, we have a 24-hour rule response. The Athletics Director, and players require communication, the response must be in a timely manner

 

Required Education & Experience

·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

·       A strong public service orientation to work well with faculty, staff, students, and the community.

·       Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

·       Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

·       Strong computer skills.

·       Ability to drive your teams to the games.

·       Ability to stay abreast of current and developing trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies).

·       Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change.

 

Qualifications

·       Bachelor's degree preferred with at least 5 years’ experience directly related to the duties and

responsibilities specified.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

·       Supervises Support Staff and students

 

Work Environment

·       Work is normally performed in a typical interior office/gymnasium environment.

·       Physical effort required, and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

·       Limited exposure to physical risk.

·       Travel required

·       CDL required

 

Timeline

Women’s Flag Football will begin operations in 2025-2026 school year. The head coach will have the 2024-2025 season to recruit, perform tryouts, and organize what’s needed for the following school year. La Sierra University also is offering to add a Senior Woman Leader position as an option.

 

The Senior Woman Leaders' functions shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicate regularly with the athletics director, not only for leadership development, but also to consult on major departmental and university initiatives.
  • Advocate and represent the female student athletes in conflicts with coaches, professors, or administration. Confidentiality and privacy.
  • Participate in providing leadership and guidance in the area of Title IX and gender equity planning for the overall department, to include both men’s and women’s sports.
  • Assist the athletics director and senior management with strategic planning processes and decision making for the athletics department.
  • Participate in budget development and major financial decisions for the athletics department operations and initiatives.
  • Advocate for student-athlete well-being while also serving as a mentor and resource for direct reports and other athletics staff members.

As assigned by the athletics director, the SWL's functions could also include the following: Fully engage in the hiring, onboarding, and evaluation processes for coaches and staff; Meet regularly with institutional senior leaders (e.g. president/chancellor, vice presidents, etc.)

 

Wage

Contract start and end dates will depend on the hiring date for the 24-25 academic year. This will affect the length of the contract. Weekly Rate $769.23 (over 52 weeks)
