Coordinator of Student and Faculty Services - Zapara School of Business

The School of Business Academic Adviser and Coordinator Student Services for the Zapara School of Business manages the provision of student services in areas including recruitment, academic advising, personal and career counseling, internship placement and career placement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Advise students and provide feedback as needed to students regarding quarterly adjustments to their schedules
● Assess course scheduling to identify any challenges for students or for the ZSB and recommend adjustments in the undergraduate course schedule to department chairs as needed
●Assess students’ requests for academic variance petitions and make recommendations regarding these petitions to the department chairs, and the Associate Dean
● Assist in the delivery of ZSB events as requested
● Assist the Assistant to the Dean in ensuring that the online schedule reflects ZSB plans and priorities
● Build warm and supportive relationships with students and help to create an atmosphere of community within the ZSB
● Communicate with accepted but unregistered students (at the beginning and end of each quarter and at other times as appropriate) to increase the likelihood that they will register
● Communicate with potential students to increase the likelihood that they will register at La Sierra and for ZSB academic programs, in coordination as appropriate with other personnel within the Office of the Dean
● Correspond with prospective undergraduates who inquire regarding ZSB programs
● Ensure that students are consistently aware of realistic graduation timelines and of any impediments to their progress toward graduation
● Evaluate classroom use at the beginning of every academic year, and make quarterly adjustments as needed
● Facilitate the registration of transfer students as needed, especially by offering unofficial preliminary advising based on their unofficial transcripts
● Finalize undergraduate academic plans with graduating seniors and assist them with the senior contract submission process, noting gaps that need to be addressed through registration for overloads and for off-campus classes and by means of academic variance petitions
● Help students make informed decisions about registration for off-campus classes
● Liaise as appropriate with OACS to help ensure that appropriate students are steered toward the ZSB, that beginning ZSB students’ needs are met, that actual or potential ZSB transfer students are provided with needed information, that ZSB students in need of academic recovery receive needed support
● Maintain regular, formal and informal contacts with students at all levels to measure and ensure their satisfaction with the ZSB and the university
● Master all applicable policies in La Sierra University’s Undergraduate Bulletin and the ZSB Policy Handbook and apply bulletin requirements consistently and fairly in a manner consistent with ZSB practice.
● Meet each quarter with freshman students in connection with the First Year Seminar program
● Note actual or potential difficulties posed for students by policies in the Bulletin and in the ZSB Handbook and in ZSB practice and call these difficulties to the attention of the ZSB faculty and the Office of the Dean
● Provide reports—focusing on student satisfaction and student perceptions of academic issues—as requested that will contribute to ZSB assurance of learning activities
● Provide students with appropriate registration overrides
● Report clearly and helpfully regarding all student meetings using EAB and HubSpot
● Represent the ZSB as a member of the Student Academic Probation Committee, the Basic Skills Council, and other committees as requested by the Dean.
● Serve as a point of first contact for actual and potential students and others, demonstrating a willingness to pursue and communicate answers to questions even when those questions are unexpected or seemingly related to the functions and activities of other entities inside or outside the ZSB
● Support the activities of the ZSB’s graduate advisors as requested
● Support the logistical, promotional, recruitment, and spiritual functions of the ZSB as requested by the Dean

Qualifications

Employee will be responsible administratively for specific activities, projects, programs or coordination of services within the functional area. Knowledge of University Studies program preferred.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university. At least one year of experience in a student advising or other student services function. Ten or more years related experience in lieu of education. Demonstrated knowledge of university admission and graduation requirements, admission and registration procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of School of Business policies and procedures.
Language Ability
Communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty members, staff members, current and prospective students, alums, and members of the business community. The capacity to respond to and manage a substantial volume of ongoing communications using multiple media seamlessly and professionally.
Math Ability
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring, novel and require creative approaches to resolutions. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have expertise in the use of general computer software like Microsoft Office Suite. Publisher or InDesign, and Banner is desired.

● The ability to integrate effectively with the ZSB staff and faculty

●Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google WorkSpace
Preferred Qualifications
The ZSB prefers that the Coordinator also possesses:
● Experience as an academic advisor
● Experience working as an administrator’s assistant in an institution of higher education
● Working knowledge of Banner, Degree Works, EAB, and HubSpot, skill in managing and navigating extensive Excel databases and Google Workspaces
