The Security Officer III position is charged with providing the security services for campus and contracted areas as well as being the lead supervising unit of the Security Office and its employees of a lesser rank. This includes student dispatchers, campus ambassadors, and campus assistant patrol officers. Also, this officer will supervise those in Security Officer I and II positions, as well as those with the Security Officer III position who have a lesser departmental rank.

 

Required Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • This officer will be the lead representative of the Security Team when on the scene of an incident until a higher ranking Security Administrator arrives on scene.
  • This position is the primary unit responsible for making sure all buildings on campus, off campus, and in contracted areas are open or secure at their proper times.
  • Patrols campus and contracted areas to maintain order and security. This includes observing suspicious individuals or vehicles coming onto campus or the contracted areas and confronting them if necessary.
  • Completes a punch round of all buildings on campus, occasionally, but primarily patrols, secures, and completes punch rounds of the security contracted areas.
  • Writes citations and warnings as necessary.
  • Must learn and know all codes for buildings, areas, and P.C. and V.C. codes which are most applicable on campus and contracted areas.
  • Remains aware of campus and contracted situations. Reads and initials all daily logs, incident reports, and memos posted in the office.
  • Maintains equipment.
  • Review irregularities and reports, and investigates if necessary.
  • Checks logs and confirms that the dispatcher typed events as they were called in accurately.
  • Fills out reports when incidents occur.
  • Completes miscellaneous projects as assigned by the Director or supervisors of Security.
  • Follows protocols outlined in the Security Office’s manuals.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent; or three plus years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:
No skills needed.

 

Certificates and Licenses:
Current Guard Card. Valid CA Driver’s License. Public Driving Record is required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Wage Range: $17.92 to $19.75 per hour plus generous benefits listed below:
