*BVP has a policy not to negotiate on salaries. Allowing for negotiations undermines the economic equity we strive for as an organization. We endeavor to pay people well and appreciate our employees. Our transparent salary scale is based on the experience, competencies, and responsibilities required to thrive in this role.
In addition, Music Teachers are expected to:

Teach general music education classes to scholars in grades K - 12 during the school day, and may also have the option to support with beginner band 1-2 times weekly after school.

Create and implement engaging lessons, incorporating a balance of music literacy, vocal development, instrumental instruction, movement, and composition for daily general music classes.

Align lessons with national and state music standards.

Work independently and collaboratively with school based and district wide teams to help build upon our expanding music program and curriculum.

Organize and host annual performances and/or concerts to showcase scholars' work throughout the year.

Create an environment of respect and rapport
-
Establish a culture of learning that reflects the educational importance of the work undertaken by both scholars and teachers
-
Establish and monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom and the efficient use of time
-
Manage scholar behavior to allow for high levels of engagement with the content
-
Model a precise and expressive use of language to effectively communicate with scholars, including: expectations for learning, directions for activities, and explanations of content
-
Use questions, prompts, and discussion techniques to cognitively challenge scholars, advance high-level thinking and discourse, and promote metacognition
-
Intellectually engage all scholars in learning through well-designed learning tasks and activities that require complex thinking, and include appropriate scaffolding
-
Utilize formative and summative assessments to drive instructional planning, monitor scholar learning, provide feedback to scholars, and facilitate scholars’ self-monitoring of learning
Qualifications:
-
A bachelor’s degree is required with certification in music education or the ability to be emergency certified by the Rhode Island Department of Education

A minimum of two years teaching experience in a diverse public school setting preferred, but not required
-
Proficiency in vocal performance or a musical instrument, and experience with leading both choral and instrumental programs is strongly preferred.

Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required

Successful applicants must hold an appropriate Rhode Island teacher certification by their date of hire. Rhode Island offers reciprocity with over 30 states across the country.
