The College of Professional Sciences at Xavier University invites highly qualified, experienced applicants for the full-time, tenure-track position of Department Chair of Leadership Studies, to be appointed at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.  The Department of Leadership Studies is relaunching its interdisciplinary Doctoral Degree in Leadership Studies (Ed.D.) with the addition of a new Post-Master’s Leadership Certificate. In addition, the Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Non-Profit Mangement, and minor in Arts Management and Administration

Responsibilities of the position include Department oversight and managing day-to-day operations, spearheading student recruitment, leading the recruitment of new faculty and staff, supervising faculty and staff, and representing the department at university functions, in addition to other duties. The Department Chair will provide collaborative leadership for matters related to program evaluation and assessment, teaching schedules, and curriculum revisions or development. The Department Chair is expected to have an on-campus physical presence, working directly with the Dean of the College of Professional Sciences; as a faculty member, they will teach and mentor graduate students.

Qualifications for the position include a doctoral degree (e.g. Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a relevant discipline, prior academic leadership experience, a strong record of teaching at the graduate level, documented effectiveness supervising doctoral dissertations, and a record of professional scholarship and publication that would qualify for a ranked appointment. We invite individuals from various disciplines to apply, including but not limited to Leadership, Organizational Studies, Public Administration, Human Resource Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Sociology, and Social Research Methods. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates with expertise in teaching statistics and research methods (qualitative and quantitative).

The ideal candidate will be a mission-driven leader with a record of effective academic program(s) or department(s) leadership, commitment to faculty collaboration and mentorship, and engagement in interdisciplinary scholarship. A strong record of scholarship and graduate teaching is essential, with particular interest in quantitative research methods and dissertation advising.  The successful candidate will bring a student-centered approach to teaching and leadership, along with a demonstrated commitment to fostering belonging. Ideal candidates will also exhibit a strategic vision for program growth and innovation, the ability to build cross-campus partnerships and a readiness to support each of the department’s interdisciplinary programs.

To be considered, applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, selected publications, evidence of effective teaching and dissertation advisement (such as student or peer evaluations, and dissertations chaired, if available), and a list of three references. The letter of interest should address the applicant’s ability to lead an academic department and experience in university teaching and leadership, conducting and supervising research, and service to their profession and/or academic institutions. These materials should be submitted on Xavier’s website. Please note: only five attachments can be uploaded during the application process online; consolidate documents if necessary.

Review of candidates will begin on November 24, 2025, with anticipated on-campus interviews in January. Applications will be accepted until the position closes at the University's discretion. For questions about the position, please contact the Search Committee Chair Lisa S. Jutte at juttel@xavier.edu.
