Xavier University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Physics & Engineering to begin in Fall 2026. The candidate is expected to significantly contribute to and potentially lead the engineering physics program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The individual must hold a Ph.D. in an engineering field. Responsibilities include: teaching the equivalent of 3 courses per semester including lecture and lab courses in physics and engineering found within the curriculum, guiding the Senior Design year-long course sequence, leading in the ABET accreditation process including the engineering physics advisory board, fostering industry relationships, having productive engagement in scholarly activities, mentoring undergraduates in a research program, and advising students. The successful candidate should bring a passion for teaching undergraduates. Experience supervising undergraduates in research, interest in collaboration with other Xavier faculty, and experience in ABET accreditation are all preferred.

A generous start-up package is available and multiple private endowments support faculty research in the sciences at Xavier. Seeking external funding to augment these funds is welcome but not required. Additionally, Xavier’s location in Cincinnati, a vibrant metropolitan city with multiple universities, hosts many engineering companies including GE Aerospace, Proctor & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson, Belcan, Meridian Bioscience, KZF Design, and many more which allows faculty to work with community partners to develop research and immersive learning opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. Xavier is a national university in the Carnegie classifications, and was recently named in the most innovative schools nationally by U.S. News and World Report.

Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts. Guided by our mission and values, we welcome and support members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We unreservedly commit to open and free inquiry, deliberately seek out multiple perspectives, and create a campus where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

At Xavier and in this department, we believe our people make all the difference in cultivating an inclusive environment that welcomes ideas, encourages innovation, and manifests belonging. We welcome candidates from all walks of life with different strengths, experiences, beliefs, and backgrounds to apply.

To be considered, applicants should submit the following to Xavier University’s website: an application letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy that incorporates how you can support student belonging, and a statement of research interests that includes ideas for scholarly work with undergraduates.

Please note only five attachments can be uploaded during the application process online.  Consolidate documents if necessary.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will be open until the position is filled. Finalists will be asked for letters of recommendation.

Questions may be sent to the Chair of the Department of Physics & Engineering, Dr. Justin Link, at linkj2@xavier.edu.
