Assistant Professor, School of Psychology 999247
Faculty
The School of Psychology at Xavier University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2026. The positions will support our APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral (Psy.D.) program and our undergraduate psychology major.
The Psy.D. program has a strong record of success, including 10-year accreditation status with APA. The program draws highly competitive applicants from across the country and admits cohorts of approximately 18 students each year. Students receive generalist, practitioner-scientist training along with specialized coursework in one or more focus areas: Child and Adolescent, Individuals with Severe and Chronic Problems & Psychopathology (ISCPP), and Healthcare Psychology across the Lifespan (HCPALS). Over the past five years, 95% of our students have matched to an APA accredited internship site and 98% of our graduates are licensed psychologists.
We also have a large undergraduate major and a minor in Psychology. Faculty teach in both programs, typically teaching three courses per semester. Faculty also engage in a program of research, mentor graduate and undergraduate research, provide service within the School of Psychology and University, and may provide clinical supervision to Psy.D. students.
The School of Psychology is part of the College of Professional Sciences, which promotes experiential learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts. Guided by our mission and values, we welcome and support members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. We unreservedly commit to open and free inquiry, deliberately seek out multiple perspectives, and create a campus where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Our campus is located in the vibrant and thriving city of Cincinnati, which has an array of neighborhoods and activities to suit many interests.
Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology program and must also be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Ohio (expectation of Ohio license within one year of hire). We invite individuals of various theoretical orientations and areas of clinical expertise to apply. We are especially interested in candidates with any of the following characteristics:
- Expertise in development, children, and/or adolescents;
- Capable of teaching and supervising cognitive assessment;
- View themselves as scientist-practitioners and are interested in teaching statistics and research methods, as well as supervising undergraduate research and doctoral dissertations.
To be considered, applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, selected publications, evidence of teaching effectiveness (such as student or peer evaluations, if available), and a list of three references. The letter of interest should address the applicant’s clinical/counseling expertise and experience in teaching, research, and service to our profession or professional institutions. These materials should be submitted on Xavier University’s website.
Please note: only five attachments can be uploaded during the application process online; consolidate documents if necessary. Letters of recommendation will be requested after initial screening interviews.
Review of candidates will begin on October 15, 2025 with anticipated on-campus interviews in early December. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. For questions about the position, please contact the School of Psychology Search Committee Co-Chairs: Jennifer Phillips (phillipsj15@xavier.edu) and Dalia Diab (diabd@xavier.edu).
