Xavier University seeks applicants to fill the position of Circulation Supervisor in the University Library. Responsible for supervising daytime library circulation activities at the Connection Center service desk in the Conaton Learning Commons and supporting building activities. Directly supervises all library Connection Center student employees, including graduate assistants. Manages circulation department, including oversight for circulation system, patron records, and billing services. Oversees reserves collections and OhioLINK consortium operations related to circulation. Serves as assistant building coordinator for the Conaton Learning Commons. The successful candidate will be an outgoing, people-oriented individual with the ability to work independently as well as being a dynamic contributor to the Access Services team. Typical hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm; hours may vary dependent on department needs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervises student employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and disciplining.
- Assists patrons with circulation of library materials, issue resolution, and implementation of circulation and building policies.
- Maintains circulation facilities, supplies, equipment, and systems.
- Serves as resource person for the Innovative Sierra Circulation (changing to Ex Libris Alma in June 2025) module for library and other departments on campus, including trouble-shooting system issues.
- Manages patron records, circulation notices, and billing services.
- Maintains hold shelf for Xavier, OhioLINK, and interlibrary loan materials.
- Resolves patron issues.
- Creates and maintains reserves on a semester basis, including facilitating requests and communicating with faculty.
- Helps maintain safety of building and maintenance of equipment/supplies.
- Communicates with supervisors, Campus Police, and Physical Plant on events and issues in both Conaton Learning Commons and McDonald Library.
- Serves as Xavier circulation contact for statewide library consortium OhioLINK.
- Resolves issues with OhioLINK processes, lost materials, and outstanding charges.
- Processes OhioLINK reports according to consortium guidelines.
- Implements policies and procedures related to OhioLINK, including the collection of data.
- Actively participates in library Public Services programs and activities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- One to three years library work experience
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently with proven organization and communication skills in a service–oriented role
- Self-starter with a strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and meet established deadlines
- Intermediate knowledge of desktop and productivity tools including the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Library circulation experience
- Academic library experience
- Familiarity with III or Ex Libris Library systems
- Experience supervising multiple part-time staff members with varied schedules
